Dental Appointment Types at The Ivory Dental
Ready to make an appointment? Our most popular appointment types can be scheduled instantly by clicking “Book Now” in the buttons below or on our main page.
Not sure what kind of appointment you need? Here’s a brief description of our appointment types:
Checkup and Cleaning
Our standard dental appointment is typically every 6 months for all patients. If you are a new patient, this would include your comprehensive dental exam and x-rays. For existing patients, this is your routine checkup and a set of preventative X-rays (typically only 4 small ones for early detection of cavities). By default, we schedule a standard dental cleaning within the same appointment (so you don’t have to schedule separately on a different day). However, for some patients requiring deep cleanings or more extensive procedures, we may not be able to accommodate same-day treatment with this appointment type.
Our checkup and cleaning appointments for new patients are typically 60 minutes long. Returning patients for standard checkups and cleanings are typically 30-45 minutes.
You can book an appointment online and browse our schedule or give us a call, and we will be happy to help!
Child (Pediatric) Checkup and Cleaning
Standard dental appointment for children age 11 and younger. Typically every 6 months for all patients. If the child is a new patient, this would include a comprehensive dental exam and the appropriate X-rays (depending on the age and necessity). Patients who are 12 years and older typically need to be scheduled as a regular (adult) Checkup and Cleaning.
If you are using dental insurance, the policy may have specific rules regarding whether dental procedures should be pediatric or adult. In general, patients with most or all of their adult (permanent) teeth will require an adult checkup and cleaning appointment.
We are a family dentistry office, but not a pediatric specialist. Therefore, we are happy to see children of all ages if the parents are also patients with our office. While we are able to provide routine preventative care (cleanings, checkups, sealants, fluoride) and basic care (some fillings and extractions), there are pediatric specialty procedures which we are unable to perform in our office and will provide a referral to a pediatric specialist.
For all children under the age of 18, we require a parent or documented guardian be present in our office during the appointment.
For younger children who may need help and encouragement during dental visits, we require a parent or guardian be present and actively assisting in the treatment room.
Our checkup and cleaning appointments for new patients are typically 60 minutes long. Returning patients for standard checkup and cleanings are typically 30-45 minutes.

Urgent Care
When something is bothering you, we keep a separate schedule open to see patients faster. This appointment is for those patients who need help to understand what is causing them discomfort, pain, or other issues and putting a plan together to resolve or manage the symptoms. For both new patients designed for urgent care or limited issues, we are not able to promise same-day treatment (but we will always try to offer it). We are also unable to provide standard dental cleanings for this type of urgent care appointment.
Our most common reasons for Urgent Care appointments are:
Dental/tooth/jaw pain that is new and concerning
Patients experiencing a cracked or chipped tooth
Patients experiencing abnormal sensitivity
Broken dental crowns, bridges, or retainers
Our Urgent Care appointments are typically 30 minutes long, but we reserve 60 minutes on our schedule in case we can provide some form of same-day treatment or remedy for managing the issue.
You can book an appointment online to browse our schedule, but if you are needing an appointment as soon as possible, please give us a call directly so one our staff can help find you the soonest available.
Invisalign Consultation
Interested in straighter teeth? This appointment is provided as a complimentary service to evaluate if Invisalign treatment is a good fit for you. In addition to a 3D scan and taking photos of your teeth, Dr. Yu will also ask about your overall goals and any additional considerations such as whitening, shaping, or prior dental work. If you are interested in an Invisalign consultation but also need a regular checkup and cleaning, we can add this consultation to your regularly scheduled checkup and cleaning appointment.
We typically are able to complete this initial consultation in 20-30 minutes, with an optional follow-up appointment for additional questions and review of your personalized treatment plan prior to starting the treatment.
In-Office Teeth Whitening
We offer three options for teeth whitening services, but this appointment is reserved for those looking for our in-office teeth whitening service applied by Dr. Yu and the staff. Because all our whitening services are stronger than your typical “over-the-counter” products and are to be provided by dental professionals only – we are only able to offer this appointment is for existing patients who have had a recent dental examination.
In the appointment, we will typically provide 2 sessions of whitening starting with preparation, application, and a 20-minute break in-between sessions. Therefore, we do typically plan for a total of 120 minutes to ensure we have sufficient time for you.
Deep Cleaning / Scaling and Root Planing (SRP)
If you are an existing patient who has been deep cleanings on your treatment plan, this appointment can be scheduled to allow sufficient time and preparation to perform your deep cleanings. Typically, we will schedule these appointments in-person. However, we do offer an online schedule option for patients looking to browse the calendar. This appointment should only be booked if your Treatment Plan includes deep cleanings (scaling and root planning). Please call our office for any questions or scheduling issues.
Follow-Up Treatment
For existing patients needing to continue their dental treatment, this general purpose appointment can be scheduled with a bit more flexibility. By default, our staff will assume the procedures to be completed at the appointment are the next in your priority list (provided to you on your Treatment Plan at your first visit). However, you can always add comments if you prefer to change your priorities. We typically help you schedule your next appointments in-person, however we do offer this appointment as an online scheduling option for those with tough personal schedules that need to browse the calendar.
